Disaster recovery (DR) and Disaster Recovery as a service (DRaaS)

Most organizations know that they need to secure and protect their business critical information and at the same moment to minimize downtime in the event of outages, failures, disasters and other disruptions of service. Ironically, most companies do not allocate adequate resources (budget, expertise, or time) to develop a comprehensive disaster recovery plan.

Whereas for organizations with disaster recovery services in place, the challenge often lies in supporting the ongoing maintenance and re-evaluating the initial investment versus newer offerings as their environment continues to expand, or leases expire.

Fortunately, the landscape of disaster recovery solutions is shifting to accommodate all changing IT needs. NS Distribution (NSD) provides a stable, cost effective and easy-to-use platform to address high cost and low technical resource competence that prevent organizations from adopting the disaster recovery service.

The DR Service launched by NSD is intended to overcome these concerns through cloud computing technology instead of building a traditional disaster recovery center by the organization. Users can leverage NSD’s private cloud infrastructure to benefit from its cost and operational efficiency as well as security features for backup and recovery at the same time.

Firstly, NSD cloud-based DR center costs less in terms of deployment and operation. End user IT infrastructure does not need to spend on physical infrastructure; they can pay as they go, which can reduce operational costs to 1/3 compared to the conventional way of operation.

Secondly, the cloud-based DR center responds resiliently to regular and urgent situations to maximize efficiency. During a regular situation, NSD DR center’s use of the main service resource is normally utilized up to 20% (stand-by and replication); when an emergency occurs, however, it increases to 60–100% to ensure immediate response (recovery and failover). Additionally, for cloud resources and management services, NSD will make a Service Level Agreement (SLA) with its clients to secure the stability and delivery of the service.

Thirdly, the DR center is based on NSD proven system deployment capacities and data center operation know-how and is ready to keep organization data secure. NSD’s DR methodologies and technologies able to ensure high security level provided to both the physical stability that needed to protect the system from natural and human made disasters such as ransomware attacks, hardware failures, earthquakes and floods.

According to NSD Senior Product Manager, Andrew Puah, NSD cloud-based DR center will provide a well-rounded solution to companies hesitating to adopt more stringent security measures due to costs and other factors. “We look forward to see the development of information security and cloud computing co-operatively. On top of that, our solution able to match the DR strategy to the business situation and requirement. It comes with all the bells and whistles every company needs.” he added.
